We have had an update from Malawi about the funds being generated by the AMECA Wing built by the AMECA Trust at The Beit CURE International Hospital.
We were very excited to hear that in in the first 6 weeks since opening in May 2011, private patient treatment in The AMECA Wing generated approximately MK 284,250 (about £1,137) of revenue to the hospital. This money is used to provide free treatment to children who desperately need it, like Edna.
We are delighted that our hospital wing is being well used and we are very much looking forward to receiving future reports on income generation from patient treatment. For an idea of the costs of children’s care at the hospital, towards which funds raised in the AMECA wing contribute; £770 is the average cost per children’s operation, including the surgical team, medical equipment, room & board for child and guardian, and overheads. £150 will pay for the treatment of clubfoot using the Ponseti Method (corrects congenital clubfoot without invasive surgery).
We look forward to the opening of the new coffee shop which was constructed as part of The AMECA Wing development. Revenue from the coffee shop will provide further opportunity for the hospital to raise more much needed funds and we look forward to more news on the progress of this venture soon.
