Presentations were given by Ruthie at The College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in Lusaka, Zambia and at The Royal College of Surgeons in London, to inform delegates about our new initiative. AMECA is currently constructing a database of opportunities for UK surgeons and other clinicians to visit African hospitals, with a view to sharing expertise in training and clinical specialties. African hospitals have been invited to register their interest in receiving UK clinicians who may be able to offer specialist training and teaching in their hospitals.
In addition to the very warm welcome that AMECA received at both venues; there was a wealth of interest both from African Hospitals wishing to register on the database and from the UK surgeons and surgical trainees, who presumably want to escape the UK climate! The database will also provide information for medical, nursing and physiotherapy elective students, who would like to undertake their elective in an African hospital.
With the aid of New Digital Partnership, our lovely website folk, we are currently constructing the database, which we hope will go live in a few week’s time.
